Leisure

Kaltern an der Weinstraße is located in the Überetsch region, an area characterized by its Mediterranean climate. This “valley above the Adige” offers rolling vineyard landscapes, beautiful forests, wonderful lakes, and much more — a paradise for cyclists, walkers, hikers, swimmers, sailors, surfers, and connoisseurs.

The Kalterer See (Lake Caldaro) is just a five-minute drive away. There you’ll find the Lido, the Seegarten, and Gretl am See – our public bathing facilities (information). From here, you can also visit Castle Leuchtenburg or the Rastenbachklamm.

In addition to Lake Caldaro, you’ll find the Montiggler Lakes (about 14 km away) nestled in the Montiggl forests near Eppan. Each lake has a Lido (for a small fee), but otherwise offers free access all around the shore.

Just two minutes from Papstlhof, you’ll find the Mendel funicular station, which takes you to the Mendel Pass in just a few minutes. The Mendel Pass is another popular local recreation area, offering both easy and more challenging hikes, along with several places to stop for refreshments.
